Are You Saved?
Feb 28, 2025
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." — Romans 10:13
A Desperate Question in a Sinking World
The freezing Atlantic. The Titanic torn apart. Hundreds floating in the black waters, moments from eternity.
A man swims from person to person, gasping between waves, clinging to a single question:
"Are you saved?"
His name was John Harper, a Scottish preacher on his way to The Moody Church in Chicago. But he never arrived. As the Titanic sank into the ocean, he spent his final moments evangelizing to the perishing, pleading with them to turn to Christ.
He swam from person to person, asking the only question that mattered in that moment. Some believed. Others slipped beneath the waves forever.
One man—his last convert—recounted that Harper, knowing he would not survive, took off his life jacket and gave it away, saying:
"You need this more than I do."
Then, he sank into the sea, leaving behind only his final words:
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved."
The Same Question Echoes Today
The Titanic is not the only ship sinking.
This world is going down. Souls are drowning in sin. And most don’t even see it.
The preacher in the water had minutes. You may have days, years—but you are not promised tomorrow.
“Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” — Proverbs 27:1
If you were standing at the edge of eternity right now…
Would you be ready?
What Does It Mean to Be Saved?
The world will tell you that being “good” is enough—but God says otherwise.
Salvation is not about religion.
It’s not about good deeds.
It’s not about how you compare to others.
It’s about Jesus Christ and Him alone.
- You are a sinner. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23
- Sin brings death. “For the wages of sin is death.” — Romans 6:23
- Jesus paid that price for you. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
- You must believe and call upon Him. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” — Romans 10:13
John Harper knew he only had moments, but he used them to point people to eternity.
What will you do with the time you have?
No One Knows Their Last Breath
The people on the Titanic had no idea their time was up.
Neither do we.
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” — Hebrews 9:27
Eternity is not something to put off. Hell is real. Heaven is real. And the only thing that separates the two is Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow is not promised. Are you ready now?
Are You Saved? A Final Plea
The man in the water asked it with urgency. I ask you now with the same.
Are you saved?
If the answer is no, do not wait.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” — Acts 16:31
Right now—call upon Him. Repent. Believe. Today is the day of salvation.
If you already know Him, go and ask someone else:
"Are you saved?"
